Heading East for Next Growth Conclave
Written by Laura Quinton, 18.12.2017
Next Growth Conclave, Nepal’s largest entrepreneurial conference will be held this week in Kathmandu, with approximately 1,500 attendees from around the globe taking part in the event. Executives from fast-growing startups as well as leading stakeholders from the entrepreneurial ecosystem, among them Upendra Mahato, founder of Mahato Group of Industries; Arjit Bhattacharya, an angel investor and CEO of Virtualinfocom; and Nitin Sethi, VP at Quikr.com, will be joining together to discuss growth strategies and future development trends.
Economic activity in Nepal, which rebounded strongly in FY2017, reaching 7.5 percent (year over year) following two challenging years, has again been impacted by severe flood affecting more than one-third of the country (ref World Bank). Inspite of this, Nepal is making significant progress in its entrepreneurial and startup ecosystem. There have been numerous stories of successful startups hailing from Nepal, and the Next Growth Conclave is focused on emboldening the startup movement and realising the country’s true entrepreneurship potential in the face of many challenges.
The conclave also hosts ‘Startup Valley’, Nepal’s largest startup exhibit, which allows fledgling businesses to showcase their ventures in front of a network of influencers, early adopters, and the media. The participants also have the opportunity to launch their products at ‘Kickstart Hill’.
Last year the event brought together a host of International growth leaders from Bangladesh, Hongkong, India, Nepal and Thailand to support the next generation of entrepreneurs in excelling sustainable growth. Mentors from a multitude of industries spanning Agriculture, Tourism, Information Technology, Education, and Startup Supporters sparked dialogue on decoding business growth.
GOInternational Finland’s Founder and CEO, Mohammad Shabbir has been invited to speak at Next Growth Conclave 2017 on Dec 22. As an experienced CEO with a successful history of working in international trade & development, Shabbir will be sharing insights on Scalability, Innovation Management and Cross-Border collaboration; citing GOInternational Finland’s flagship initiative, The Indo-Finnish Market Entry Acceleration Programme, which is actively driving cross-border collaboration between India & Finland (and the Nordics) on delivering smart cities and villages in India. The programme can be reformatted to create international opportunities for Nepalese solutions.
“Entrepreneurs should no longer consider themselves to be confined nor defined by borders – they should begin with the vision of becoming a global business from the offset. We’re all now working towards building one global entrepreneurial ecosystem – it’s the only way forwards for making the world a better place through innovation.
The biggest error we make as Innovators and Entrepreneurs is that we treat each other as different Markets. We need to start treating each other as Co-Creators… and once we start doing that, we can refine innovation to be more localised, more frugal and more readily & widely available” – Mohammad Shabbir, Founder & CEO, GOInternational Finland
